Dad’s Chili

Ingredients

  • 900g Ground Beef (or pork, or lamb)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 stalks of celery, diced
  • 10-15 button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 800ml can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 400ml can of beans in tomato sauce
  • 1 400ml can of kidney beans
  • 1 400ml can of black beans
  • 1/4c chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp oregano

Method

  1. Brown the meat in a frying pan
  2. Drain excess fat if present
  3. Mix in seasonings
  4. Add onion, celery, mushrooms
  5. Cover and cook for 5 minutes
  6. Add mixture to slow cooker
  7. Deglaze pan with juice from tomatoes
  8. Add juice, tomatoes, beans to slow cooker
  9. Mix to combine
  10. Cook on low for 8 hours
